MOVING HEARTS

Live in Dublin (Rubyworks): A-

Almost two-and-a-half decades after it recorded a valedictory album and broke up, Irish band Moving Hearts re-formed in 2007 for a series of shows that proved its pioneering fusion of Irish traditional music, rock 'n' roll, jazz and world music remains life-sustaining. Live in Dublin captures one nights performance by what is essentially MH 2.0, which went all-instrumental with the departure of balladeer Christy Moore. With ace players such as Davy Spillane and Donal Lunny aboard, its no surprise that the playing bursts with passion and vitality. And while it would have been a incentive to hear this jazz-influenced band step out and jam a bit, fans will be more than satisfied with these sizzling renditions of their old favorites.
